I’ve been reading a book called “Forgotten God by Francis
Chan.  It speaks to the fact that
in many churches we talk about God and about Jesus…but not as often do we speak
about the Holy Spirit and His power in our lives.  This book has been helpful in answering some of the
questions that have been raised in my own walk with Him lately…or if not
answering them completely, then at least helping me to explore them further.

            In
Chapter 2 of the book, Chan wrote this, “(In Acts 2) The Holy Spirit’s power is
unleashed like no one had ever seen or experienced before…The Epistles tell us
of the Holy Spirit’s amazing power at work in us, our Spirit-enabled ability to
put our sin to death through Him, and the supernatural gifts He gives us…Yet
this is not the way it is for most people.  We don’t live this way.  For some reason, we don’t think we need the Holy
Spirit.  We don’t expect the Holy
Spirit to act or if we do, our expectations are often mis-guided or
self-serving.  Given our talent
set, experience, and education, many of us are fairly capable of living rather
successfully (according to the world’s standards) without any strength from the
H.S.

            God
has been reminding me over and over again that there are a lot of really nice
people, who do really nice things for other people.  He has not called us to just be nice…but to live radical
lives.  A lot of the things that we
do should not look normal to non-believers.  (Warning: You may look a little “weirdâ€ or “crazyâ€ at times
when you follow the prompting of the Holy Spirit)  When we are being guided by the Holy Spirit, things will
happen that are supernatural.  What
is the point of claiming that we have a supernatural God, who can do
supernatural things and also claiming that we have the power of Christ in us if
our lives look exactly the same as everybody else?

Are you with me?
