4 days in the confinement of 3ft
3 feet across and 4.5 feet in height is the usual space of an airplane seat, For 4 days my squad mates and I sat in these confined seats of an airplane and a bus.
Just to give you a quick run down on what our travel schedule has looked like these few days. We flew a good 2 hour flight from Atlanta to Chicago. In Chicago we waited 4 hours for our next flight. From Chicago we flew to Dubai… a great 13.5 hour flight. Once in Dubai, we had a 3 hour layover and then took an 8 hour flight to Johannesburg, South Africa. From there we waited from 5:30am to 5:30pm for our taxi to take us to our bus and then once on the bus drove 14 hours to Umtata where we caught a taxi for one last hour to a small town called Port St, Johns.
If you are tall at all you can feel my pain knowing that airplanes, buses and taxis were not made for the tall population. Always, without fail, the person who wants to push their seat back the farthest somehow has the seat in front of you and an aisle seat is the sweetest.
Over all, I love the adventure of driving and flying. It always feels like the best beginning of a great adventure.
There are 4 things I have learned about long distance transportation
- It’s actually easy to get a workout in between your connecting flights. You just need to look for the right things to use as equipment.
A girl on my squad and I started doing airport workouts and we are calling them “PlaneFit”. Stay toned. We will have photo and videos for you of our workouts. Workouts coming soon…. Say Dubai to your stomach fat and Chicago arms on fire.
- Never underestimate the power of getting to know someone that is sitting next to you.
When we arrived in South Africa I got to know a sweet lady sitting behind me on the 14 hour bus ride we had from Joeburg to Umtata. We ended up missing our stop in Umtata and the lady at the bus stop was so helpful. She called our cab and spoke with them in their language. She got everything worked out for us and had us wait in a save coffee shop for them to come.
- The longer the plane ride, the nicer the plane.
- If you make up a language in an airport, no one questions it.
