GIVE UP TO GIVE
5 Easy Ways to Help You Keep Lent
I’m not Catholic, but I think that lent is a beneficial and fun thing!
- It helps you be faithful in the little things in life
- Can improve your prayer life
- Creates Self-Discipline
- It encourages you to not be a slave to anything
All of these things help to remind us of the sacrifice Christ gave for us on the cross.
If you are trying to kick a bad habit for lent, here are a few things you can do!
- Choose your habit you want to stop (such as eating desserts), and donate the money you would have spent on that habit at my support Lyndi link.
- Hold yourself accountable. Donate each time you go back to your bad habit/mess up (if you don’t mess up, great! I’m glad this could hold you accountable some how!)
- Speak up. Tell people about what you are giving up. Create a new conversation. When someone asks you “Why are you not drinking coffee (eating ice-cream, junk food, etc) this month?” you can say (instead of the normal “I just want to be healthy” spill), “I decided to donate the money I usually spend this month to a woman who is going on The World Race”. And vwalla! Just like that, you have started a pretty cool conversation! Also, The more people you tell that you are doing something the more accountability you will have.
- Don’t make it about yourself. Jesus’ time on earth was full of sacrifices and his last and most important being a painful death on the cross; not because He had to, but because He loves us so much. This is a great time for us to reflect on who God is and what he has done for us as a loving Father.
- Pray for someone else. Every time you are tempted to break your lent, pray for someone else. This keeps your focus off yourself and on others and mainly Christ.
Thanks and good luck!
