In our last week in Kenya, my teammate Adam challenged us all to write our own psalms to the Lord. He asked us to each write a psalm of praise and a “crying out psalm”. He gave us a few days to complete this task, and then we came together to share them. We were given the option of which psalm we wanted to share with the team. Funnily enough, we all chose our “crying out psalm”. My team insisted that I post mine as a blog. So, here it is. Raw, vulnerable, real. Definitely not as eloquently written as David’s own, but praise God that He desires for us to speak to Him in our own, unique, imperfect ways. Here is my heart… And maybe it will speak to yours.
Though every time I have before, You have taken them away.
You give and take away – but You always remain.
I ache for a friend who will stay,
As Ruth was to Naomi.
You are that mighty, constant presence,
Yet my aching remains.
Do I not love You and long for You enough;
That I would ask for more when I have the ultimate Lover and Friend inside of me?
How blessed am I to be called “friend of the King of kings”?
Who am I to ask for more?
Lord, forgive me for belittling Your presence in my life.
I do not deserve Your friendship, yet You give it so freely.
Any person in my life is but a gift on loan from You.
Thank you, Lord, for Your abundant gifts.
Though they may be fleeting,
Your glorious light within them remains;
To be a gift for someone new.
A shooting star;
A passing flame;
A living and walking example of Your love
If only for a moment.
