One of the ministries this month was to teach English in a town outside of Santiago (about 1hr outside of where we are living). There is a children’s center in on of the poorest and roughest cities in the Santiago area and possibily in the DR. Cien Fuegos (100 Fires) is named because of it is the dump area and there are constant fires buring up the garbage.

My team only had one chance to go to the Cien Fuegos Children’s center. I really enjoyed getting to teach the older kids and repeat days of the week, months of the year, fruits, colors, etc, with them! The rest of my team had a harder time with the younger kids because they were extremly unruly and out of control. The kids are raised in rough family situations and obviously difficult living situations too. They were such beautiful kids.

God has brought opportunities this month for me to step out and try new things I never thought I would enjoy! Some are teaching English, helping our host homeschool their kids, teaching worship chords on the piano to one of the host kids, and keeping score for a portion of our basketball outreach tournament. They are little, but at the same time big for my personal and Spiritual growth. Side note: I have never felt more confident and content with my personality, body, who I am, etc. It is amazing how when Jesus becomes more of the center of your life how other things don’t matter as much and when my purpose and affirmation is in Jesus!
