Fund Raising is…
There is a hundred ways I could finish that sentence, but for this blog we are going to use the world enriching.
So in the process of trying to open up as many doors for God to work in, I got an idea from one of my fellow world racers: go on the street and ask for money for your mission!
What a great idea! So I invited a friend along and we headed to downtown Dayton on a nice Saturday with hope in our heart and whimsy in our spirits!
Did anyone else know that downtown Dayton is like dead, all the time! Well I didn’t! I could count on my hands how many people we saw a one time, with so few people that made me nervous.
But none the less we parked and started, asking the few people that where out. We had some mix reachtions. A few bucks here and there, a gentleman even gave me a twenty, that’s something!
You remember that sentence I could end in a hundred different ways? Here is another word to put in that blank: Discouraging.
We approched a few people by the market place and asked them the question: “would you like to donate to my mission?” I could feel the judgement instantly. “What is your mission for?” With confidence I said “To spread the gospel of Jesus Christ!”
I have never been looked at with such disscused. After there reasons as to why they would not or could not give, the lady in there group felt back for us and gave us a few bucks.
How to feel? I mean I am being called to reach the world and the devil has this great trick of telling them that Jesus is not real and that I am wasting my time! I wish I could tell them! I wish I had the gift to put into words how awesome it is to serve our awesome God, to pull how I feel and put it into another person! But I can’t, so we walked away.
I wish you knew…
Feeling discouraged, my friend could feel it, so he suggested a change of scenery. We headed to River Stake. We asked the people we could find with the same amount of luck as before, ready to give up and go home, my friend pushed me to ask this couple sitting on a park swing.
In Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis talks about when two vessels of the Holy Spirit meet one another for the first time they can tell that each other is contaning the Holy Spirit. Like there is a secert club where the members can recognize each other without ever meeting before with only a look.
This was one of those times.
I approched and asked the question. Boom! What a different responds! They had all kinds of questions and wanted to know everything they could about my mission, they got all of my info and prayed for me and my friend! What awesome people. Two minutes into the conversation, I knew this was who God wanted me to meet today! How refreshing! God showed up at the eleventh hour and did in the form of these two great Godly people! How enriching!
After we said goodbye to our new freidns we asked some more people and had the same luck as before. Feeling that our cups where full of Gods love and that we did what God had planned for us we decided to call it quits.
You know I was right before, the devil has his tricks, but so does God! Maybe that is why God is sending me on this trip to be about of his bag of tricks…
His next trick,
Luke
