As missionaries we often hear talk of “unreached people groups” and “the 10/40 window.” The Unreached have never heard the Gospel and have no access to it through books, TV, the internet, etc. They will likely die without ever having heard the name of Jesus.
When I think of unreached people, I think of isolated villages or indigenous tribes or people in very restricted countries. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia doesn’t really come to mind. My team was placed in the city for the month of January to look for new ministry contacts for the World Race. I told you we would be working with existing local organizations each month, but this month we were devoted solely to looking for new partners that could host future World Race teams.
On day, my teammate Ana and I stumbled upon a church on our way to a different ministry. There was a school connected to the church and the man in the church office recommended that we talk to them. As we waited in the front office for the principal to meet with us, I felt almost guilty about being there. It was a private Christian school in an upper middle class neighborhood. Did they really need our help? I was skeptical until the principal explained to us that most of the students and staff were not actually Christian. In a mostly Muslim country, this could be the only chance these kids ever have to hear the Gospel.
The principal asked our whole team to return a few days later to lead morning devotion at the school. As I poured out my testimony in front of these kids that morning, I could only pray that someone in the crowd was being reached by my words. Our ministry is not just for those with physical needs, but for spiritual needs as well. It was a privilege for our team to be able to share with the school that morning, and it was great to know that we could be the first of many teams coming to serve there.
I am only about $3000 away from being fully funded. Please spread the word or consider donating to keep me on this journey!
