It’s easy to get into the habit of living for ourselves. After graduation I could just as well go out into the “real world” and get a job for a couple of years before embarking on this sort of journey. At this transitional point in my life, however, I don’t want to get into the habit of living to serve myself. I believe God gives us life so that we can serve Him and serve others. Of course, there are a billion different ways to do this, so why did I choose the World Race?
Well, the thing is, I didn’t exactly choose the World Race. Of course I agreed to go on it and did all the research beforehand to figure out just what I would be getting myself into, but in some sense I feel like the World Race chose me. I ended up on their website purely by accident and knew almost right away that I was going to go. Yes, I love to travel and yes, I do actually watch the TV show The Amazing Race, but I wanted to be sure that this desire was not just a passing whim. After many months of prayer I am confident and excited that this is where God intends me to be. It is not going to be easy, but it will be worth the trials to spend 11 months of my life giving everything to God, my teammates, and the people we will be serving. I am honored to be a part of this journey.
