My team and I visited Angkor Wat in
Siem Reap, Cambodia, this past week, during Cambodia’s holiday for
their new year. The five-hour bus ride from Kampong Cham to Siem Reap
and then back was rather interesting, but thankfully we made it
safely. We had the joy of listening to Cambodian music blaring
through the bus speakers as well as another passenger’s music playing loudly. This
along with being crowded in the seats as well as hot and sweaty
despite the air conditioning made for a long ride. On the way back
our bus driver nearly hit three cows in the road at different times.
We couldn’t help but laugh many times!

Despite the long trip, it was all worth
it in the end and made for a memorable experience. We had a great
guest house to stay at in Siem Reap with probably the nicest man
we’ve ever met who helped us get transportation and find cheap places to eat.

Seeing Angkor Wat was amazing. This
large temple was built way back in the 12th century. It’s
only one of many ancient temples in the area of nearly 60 square
miles! It’s amazing to see the skill in architecture and design these
people had to build these amazing places. It’s just sad they built
these to worship Buddha and other false gods. We walked around with a
spirit of prayer. It’s difficult to enjoy sites like this when you
know it was built to worship someone or something else. Still, it was amazing to see.

Here are some pictures from our
experience:

It was really cool to walk around and explore the temples. There were only a few restricted areas where we couldn’t go.

This temple is where the movie Tomb Raider was filmed. It has huge trees growing around the ruins.
