Something I have learned this year while traveling the world is to be tuned into the spiritual atmosphere around you. It changes. There may be much peace in one city, but a couple towns over may encompass an atmosphere of chaos and hopelessness. I really began to understand this part of my spiritual walk in Dragonesti, Romanina.
Welcome to Dragonesti! Where you can walk from one side of the city to the other within a thirty to forty-five minute span. See the entire city in just a day’s time! The people you meet may vary from BMW rich to horse and buggy poor. You may see parents yelling and beating their children or little boys showing off their packages to ladies twice their age while walking down the street. Mosquitos are ramped and vicious. Make sure to bring your bug net! Dogs will be roaming the streets, but no need to worry. Most have been abused; therefore, they cower or run from you. If you ever feel a loneliness, rest assured that it is just part of the experience. Dragonesti is indeed officially part of southern Romania – better known as the Graveyard of Missionaries. Stop by any time!
So that’s the physical invitation. Let me give you a spiritual one.
Make Dragonesti, Romania your next vacation spot! Having trouble with getting along with friends? Book a trip. The atmosphere of Dragonesti is known for frustration. How about your marriage? Is it hitting a rough patch? Swing in for a few nights. Dragonesti can provide an environment of pure irritation. You say you just need some good rest? Away from the rest of the world… Dragonesti can help with that too! We are a city stamped by the struggle to find rest. Restlessness and a lack of energy are our biggest attractions to the atmosphere here. Your best bet would be to come alone. Loneliness preys on all who enter in order to divide and depress. See you soon!
-No joke-
The spiritual atmosphere of darkness in southern Romania is a constant battle. One fought daily and nightly with God’s servants. Does He provide where the environment lacks? Of course. But it’s just enough to get through your day. You must be seeking the Lord’s strength each and every day. You skip a day, and you will have a mess on your hands. You may think I’m exaggerating a bit, but believe me – every word is true.
No matter where you are, seek out the spiritual atmosphere. It helps you fight your battles. It helps give grace where grace is due. We don’t fight against flesh and blood, although at times it may seem that way. We fight against rulers, authorities, cosmic powers, and spiritual forces of evil. Be prepared to point your finger at the Enemy – not your spouse, children, co-worker, friend, etc. The problem is much deeper than that.
What is the spiritual atmosphere of your home? Of your workplace? Of your restaurant? Of your car? Of your theatre? Of (you fill in the blank)?
