Hello Dear Friends!
Recently, it occurred to me that the people venturing to this webpage may not be “in the loop” about what this trip is even about. Do you know where I will traveling? Who I will be with? When I will leave? What I will do for 11 months? And the million dollar question, how in the world I expect to fund this thing? Well, I’m glad you hypothetically asked all of that. This is my attempt at answering any of the logistical questions that may come to the minds of any of my supporters and donors.
If I did not answer a question that you have, do not hesitate to email me or leave a comment asking your question. I more than happy to answer any concerns that any of you may have.
The elephant in the room: how do you plan to raise $20,000?
Well, as much as I would love to meet a multimillionaire with a philanthropic heart, I cannot rely on that as funding (unfortunately). Shout out to all the millionaires!
On a serious note, I have always been hesitant to send support letters or create a website for a trip. People often encourage me to create a GoFundMe. My only hesitation is websites, such as GoFundMe, were originally created for families with outrageous medical bills due to cancers and other ailments. Bluntly put, it was not created so I could travel the world. In my mind, if someone feels compelled to write me a check and financially support my trip, they will do so without me asking.
I am not attempting to discourage someone from using sites like GoFundMe and I am definitely not saying it is ethically or morally wrong to do so. For me however, it is not the path that I want to walk for fundraising.
Another clarification: I am not saying that I do not accept donations. A lady who I admire very much once told me, “Logan, you have to overcome this fear (or whatever it is) of accepting donations. For some people, an 11 month humanitarian trip is not possible. For people that cannot drop everything and go, their role and their burden is to financially support the people that can. By you not accepting their donations, you essentially are downplaying the burden that God gave them in their role as a missionary and humanitarian.” BOOM! MIND BLOWN!
I accept donations from people and I am grateful for every penny (seriously, every cent is helpful) but you will never receive a letter from me in the mail or an email with my GoFundMe URL.
That’s that. Moving on. 🙂
In order to raise the $20,000 dollars, I am attempting to combine my love for writing, my photography hobby, and my infatuation with food, in a beautiful and eloquent Ebook.
The book I am writing is called “Of the Earth” and it is a recipe book filled with everything “Logan”.
Originally, it was going to be a cookbook but as I began writing and consulting with my friends, it manifested into recipes that included natural and organic skin care, cleaning products and even homemade deodorant (that’s right, I am one of those people that makes their own).
The book will be released December 1st and it will sold for $20.
Here is the crazy part: if everyone who follows me on Instagram (approximately 2,000 people) bought my $20 book, my entire trip would be paid for! Crazy, right?
That’s not including all of my friends on Facebook that might be interested in purchasing my book, too.
I am eager to see the success that my book will have. Fingers crossed it is my golden ticket! 🙂
Where will you be traveling?
As you know, World Race is an 11 month trip to 11 different countries throughout Asia, Africa and South America. My current route (which is subject to change based on safety) is:
Month one: India
Month two: Nepal (Home of Mt. Everest!… Just saying.)
Month three: Thailand
Month four: Cambodia
Month five: Vietnam
Month six: Rwanda
Month seven: Ethiopia
Month eight: Bolivia
Month nine: Peru
Month ten: Ecuador
Month eleven: Columbia
PS: I will leave in August 2017 (after I graduate from College of Charleston in May! Whoop Whoop!)
Who will you be traveling with?
…other world racers, of course.. who just so happen to be complete strangers to me.
My squad (aka: the people I will be traveling with) consists of about 30 people, so far. We will meet in June at Training Camp in Atlanta.
What are you going to be doing for 11 months?
GREAT QUESTION! I wish I knew the answer!
Essentially, I am going to do whatever is needed. If I need to give babies snuggles and kisses, then that is what I will do. If I need to learn farming, then I will have my overalls ready. If I need to build a school or an orphanage, then I’ll be the first the wear the hard hat. If I need to throw a dance party for kids who need to release some energy, then I will embarrass myself and dance all night! If someone needs healing, I will be the first to lay my hands on them and offer prayers to God asking for His healing hand, too.
I plan on identifying a need and meeting it. It’s as simple as that.
If you have any other questions, please feel the freedom to email me. I am more than happy to talk about my trip with you.
