It’s the sight of tons of children racing toward a truck on
Thursday nights.
It’s seeing the joy in their faces when they see that you
have come to see THEM.
It’s knowing that this meal that they get tonight might be
the first one that they’ve had in days.
Its realizing that there are no language barriers
really…love is a language.
Its letting a little girl who refuses to talk rest on you
and slowly seeing her open up throughout the night.
It’s holding a child for hours and knowing you are probably
the first person to hold them since last week when you were here.
Its spending a couple hours loving on a prostitute, knowing
that you are probably one of the only people to show her true love.
It’s a child falling asleep in your arms and knowing that
most of the time they are asleep, its on concrete.
Its seeing children doing inappropriate things, knowing that
they learned it somewhere.
Its hugging a little boy and only being able to smell the
glue that he’s been huffing.
Its lying on the
ground and letting a child sleep peacefully on top of you.
It’s the piggy back rides, playing games, coloring, nursing
wounds.
Its realizing that God has a powerful plan for these kids.

But really its thinking about the fact that most of these
boys on the streets will end up in gangs. Realizing the likely hood that most
of the girls will end up in prostitution. Knowing that they will likely end up
in abusive relationships. Realizing that most of these kids will end up with
drug or alcohol addictions.

Life is all about choices. Some people choose to be doctors.
Some people choose to be ministers. Some choose fear and some choose happiness.
Some choose to pile up possessions and some choose to give them all away. Some
choose the way of the cross and some choose the easier path. Today I choose to
believe in the power of my God. I choose to believe that Satan has no power
over those God calls his own. I choose to believe that God is a God of redemption.
I choose to believe in the power of prayer.
I choose to believe that good is more powerful than evil. I choose to
believe that the light can overcome darkness. I choose faith. I choose joy. I
choose hope. But most of all, I choose love.

People always talk about those perfect moments in life. Most
people say that their wedding day or the first time they hold their baby in
their arms is one of those moments. Tonight was one of those moments for me.
Holding a child, not even speaking, just being there.
People also say that a picture is worth a thousand words.
But I believe some moments just aren’t done justice by photographs or video.
Some moments are impossible to recreate. They have to be experienced.
