A few days ago my team was in a village doing crusades. One
morning while we were there I woke up to the sound of screaming. Immediately I
knew why. Its something that I had seen before. I walked
into the hall and I could see our pastor praying over a girl who was possessed
by a demon.
He spoke with authority and love. He wanted redemption for
her. He was crying out to God to take over. Since we’ve been in Uganda we have
experienced a lot of the spiritual world. It is something we tend to ignore in
America. But being here, we have seen spiritual warfare like I never thought we
would. It is so real, and it’s a daily part of life here.
My favorite part of experiencing these things is seeing how
God redeems his people. He is a God of love, mercy, grace, compassion. He never
lets go regardless of where we are at. Its beautiful to see demons being cast
out of a child one night and the next day see that same child worshipping God
with their whole heart.
Ephesians 6 talks about the Armor of God. I have read that
passage almost every day since being here. God is our protector and we have to
clothe ourselves in his truth, his righteousness, faith. He never lets us go.
“Finally, be strong
in the Lord and in the strength of his power. Put on the whole armor of God, so
that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our struggle
is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the
authorities, against the cosmic
powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the
heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be
able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
Stand therefore, and
fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of
righteousness. As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim
the gospel of peace. With all of these, take the shield of faith with which you
will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet
of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
Ephesians 6:10-17
This month has been a month of new experiences. God is
stretching us and showing us things we never thought we would experience. We
are stepping out of comfort zones and blowing our safe bubbles out of the
water. One thing I have learned from these experiences is that God loves us
with a furious love. (If you haven’t seen that documentary, you should.) He
never gives up on us and he fights for us. He desires us and wants us for
himself.
