Our team had our first experience with house to house
evangelism this week. It was pretty intense. And pretty awesome. I was pretty
nervous at first. I hate speaking in front of people, even if it isn’t in a
formal setting, it makes me so nervous to think that all eyes are on me and
they are expecting to hear something grand and deep from me. I don’t do that. Let’s
just say I did a lot of praying.

I prayed the night before. I prayed all day as we were
walking. But as I was praying I was asking God to give me something, anything
for someone. A word, a scripture, a picture, something that would bring life to
someone.Something that would bring joy in the midst of suffering.Something that
would bring light in darkness.Something that would let them know that God cares
for them more than they ever knew. And
all of a sudden I had scriptures in my head. Not all the time, but every now
and then something would come to mind. It wasn’t even that hard to say them,
because I knew that God wanted to say that to the people we were with. We were
speaking life into the people we were spending time with. It was good.

I remember one family more clearly than any other. They had
a little girl that was autistic. She had a really hard time with us while we
were there. We prayed for the family and for her and as we were leaving, she
came after us and she took both of my hands in hers and looked into my eyes for
a while. The only thing I could think was that this is pure innocence. God has
called us all to have faith like a child.

“He called a child,
whom he put among them, and said, ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and
become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever
becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.'”
Matthew 18:2-4

God has promises to fulfill in our lives, we just have to
have complete trust in him, like this little girl had complete trust in the
people around her.
