At the end of our first week of ministry in Cambodia, we
gathered together as a squad to share what the Lord had been doing that week
and to worship. I listened as my squadmates shared of healings in the slums,
the Holy Spirit falling in powerful ways during worship, and amazing
testimonies of the Lord changing the lives of the Cambodian people. As it was
drawing closer to my team’s turn to share, I thought to myself: I haven’t
really done much. I spun kids in circles until we were both too dizzy to stand,
I’ve hugged a lot of kids, and I spent 40 minutes teaching “I am brushing my
teeth.”
I shared a couple of stories, but
still went home feeling like I wasn’t doing much. Later, as I was sitting alone
before the Lord, He really convicted me that I don’t have to do what I consider
big things, but I need to do all things with great love.

We
can do no great things; only small things with great love. ~ Mother Teresa

This month we have a ministry of
doing small things with great love. This looks different every day. It might be
spinning kids in circles and hearing their laughter, spreading my arms wide
open as Kita runs at me and wrapping her up in a big hug, laughing instead of
getting upset when my 2nd grade boy pokes my love handles and
giggles (again), giving high fives to my students, washing the dishes that one
of my teammates left in the sink, listening intently as our translator shares
his story, or blowing bubbles. They are all small things, but I am learning to
do them with more and more love. This month the Lord is filling my heart to
overflowing with love for the children with whom we are working. They have
captured my heart! I am learning to love and to pour out that love in the small
thing

s. This is the most important ministry of all.

The
only thing that counts is faith expressing itself in LOVE. ~ Galatians 5:6b
