I have
heard several former racers talk about these moments where they just look
around them and ask, “Is this really my life?” I had my first moment like this
on Wednesday evening. Wednesday was our team’s free day so we had decided to go
into town together for a team night and to share our testimonies.
Here
I am sitting on the patio of my favorite coffee shop in Palenque, Café de Yara.
I am sipping the best café moka ever (Here in
Mexico there is no milk in the
mocha- only chocolate, espresso, and whip cream- it’s perfect!), eating fried
plantains with cheese and cream (absolutely delicious!), and sharing my heart
with 3 amazing women who are quickly becoming sisters to me. We are sitting on
the patio enjoying the rare Mexican breeze and listening to the sounds of
conversations, music from Palenque’s party bus, and the grinding of the
espresso machine. It’s a perfect evening.
One
moment I am connecting with my sisters and sharing the story of the Lord’s work
in our lives and the
next a small boy comes eagerly skipping to our table,
“Hola!” he says with a huge smile on his face. It’s Juan. Quickly we pull up
another chair and order some burritos (his favorite) and invite Juan to join us
for dinner. We talk about his day, his family, etc. as much as we are able with
our limited Spanish vocabulary. Mostly we just love on him and enjoy his
company.
I
watched how quickly our evening changed. One moment we’re connecting over good
food and amazing coffee (things that have been so much a part of my everyday
life) and a moment later we’re feeding an orphaned kid, loving him, and
inviting him into our lives (things that I long to be a part of my everyday
life). It’s all so beautiful! I am overwhelmed by the grace of the Lord. Is
this really my
life? Do I really get to live like this all year? Thank You Jesus! I am so
blessed!
