Jireh Children Home
We arrived in Bangalore, India to our ministry at Jireh Children home. The first couple days was hard for my team dealing with sickness and adjusting to the food. Our Ministry host Morong and Sendmi Khaling were amazing!! They were very accommodating and have been a such a blessing to the entire team. They have such a big heart to serve and help children that come from unprivileged homes or orphans. Because of their own personal experiences growing up without the basic needs, they wanted to be a blessing to share what God has done for their family and now open it to other children. In our first conversation, Sendmi stated “We believe in quality and not quantity”. There are currently 12 children at the children home which included 3 of Morong and Sendmi biological children. The children call them “Auntie and Uncle”. The children stay at Jireh’s Children home until the age of 18.
Morong and Sendmi currently doesn’t have supporter yet they believe God to provide daily to pay for all the children school fees, school uniforms, food, and shelter. Most of the children that comes from a Hindu background with very little English. During their time at Jireh’s, they are enrolled in school, learn English, and grow spiritual in the things of God!
Day to Day Ministry
Our ministry day starts with 7:30am morning devotions with the children before school. One of my favorite morning devotions was the fruits of Holy Spirt in Galatians 5:22. Every morning we gave the kids a challenge in walking out one of the fruits for that day. Throughout the day my team will plan the day with bible stories, games, and praise and worship song. Then we have Children Club when the children come back from school. We end our day help the children with homework but it was more moral support because most the homework was in another language.
Rachel, age 13, one of the children at Jireh Children Home said she enjoy learning new songs and bible stories with our team. One of her favorite game is “jump in jump out” introduction game. This game allows the children to introduce themselves and tell a fun fact about themselves in fun musical way. Her favorite story is the story of Joseph which emphasize on forgiveness, and trust God even the hard times and the story of Daniel and the lion – taught us how to pray, stand on god word and didn’t bow down to the king’s idol.
Be Led By Holy Spirit
This month was jam pack with so many opportunities to flow with Holy Spirt. One opportunity was unexpected, but exciting when I received a phone call late at night informing the team that we will be teaching on leadership at a bible college to next day. My type A personality was screaming because I needed more time to plan but in that moment, I just relied on Holy Spirit. The moment, we put together a full program within minutes and we prayed God will use us! There is a saying “If you stay ready, then you don’t have to get ready” Thank God for Leadership Training Center (LTC)!! The next day, our ministry host car “JJ” broke down on the side of the road but that didn’t stop us from it!
This month I was in the process of abandoning of things I hold on to at home as well as getting out of my comfort zone. It is okay to miss my friends and family but I still had to remain present in what I am doing here in India. I realized that I can get distracted even ministry in India!
I never though it would be so hard to say goodbye but each child has left an imprint on my heart!
Please pray for the needs (food, school fee, transportation, sponsorship) of Jireh Children Home! I know God is using this ministry to change the lives of these children during their season at Jireh’s Children Home!
