Welcome to India … the city of cows!! I never understood the meaning of “HOLY COW” until now! There are cows everywhere in India because cows are sacred animals in the Hindu culture. (well no beef this month)
Here is a kick off vlog of my travel day to India with my Squad!!
We started our journey together as a squad (55 people) in Hyderabad, India for cultural training. We learned more of the cultural norms of India. For example, women have to be fully covered when leaving the house which includes covering up their shoulders and ankles. Yep, modesty is real in India!
One of my first adventures in India was teaming up with my Quinn, Maggie, and Catlin to purchase our teams bus tickets to Bangalore, Inidia!
Here is a fun fact: India has Uber drivers!!!
We took an Uber to downtown Hyderabad with very little knowledge of the bus schedule. It was a challenge at first to find the bus station and we got lost!! AHH!! Sitting on the corner of the street, we prayed to God to send us someone who can speak English. Thank God, we found a group of individuals that gave us a little more sense of direction to the bus station.
Here another fun fact of India: when driving in India there are no road rules.
Imagine cars, moto pads, and tuktuk drivers driving the same direction in one lane. With that being said- we had to cross the street to the bus station and jaywalking across the street in India is much more intimidating and challenging than the States! Thankfully we got the bus tickets and survived our adventure driving back with four people on a tuktuk.
“The face you make when you find the bus station!”
After 3 days of training, I was ready to go to my ministry site. On my last day in Hyderabad, my team decided to go out to dinner. Indian food is spicy!! Even when we ask for “no spice” , the food is still spicy! So make sure you carry water to drink and napkins to wipe your nose. We random picked a restaurant and ironically the owner of the restaurant was a Christian. After dinner, he took us to a prayer room located upstairs from his restaurant. We joined other Christians women in prayer and worship! That was a God moment!
Here is a quick clip in the prayer room
I will have more blog/vlog updates regarding my ministry in India at Jireh Children Home.
I ask to continue to pray for my team as we finish our ministry here in India!
