So we´re at approximately 11,000 feet. Somehow you´re brain gets a little fuzzy and you can´t breathe too easily. But I´m sure we´ll get used to the altitude. We´re living in a little town called Musho, up in the Andes mountains. The view is spectacular! This morning I woke up to a beautiful view of snow capped mountains (the highest in the country), and a breakfast of fried eggs and bread. They´ve already been feeding us well here, and we´ve only been here for 1 full day.
This past week has been full of adventure. Debrief on the coast of Lake Nicaragua overlooking Omotepe… my brain and emotions were fried (just like the eggs) after a couple of days of debrief. Then we flew from Managua to Lima. We arrived in Lima to our destination (1 hour south of the airport) at about 2 am. We pulle dout our sleeping bags and slept in until 8.30.
And then we ate breakfast, prepared for the race, and found ourselves at a park in Miramar. We had directions to follow, and we were off, racing around Lima, trying to be the first team to reach San Cristalball (an overlook of Lima). Our team arrived first, 9 minutes ahead of the other B teams, but unforunately we got 1 question wrong along the way, and the penalty put us in last place. But, in the end, it felt good to know that in a long distance race, Nessa can compete. We jsut kept running and running around Lima. Not to mention, swimming in the strong currents of the Pacific ocean!
The next morning, after washing my hair under the faucet, A and B squad had orientation, all day, and then B squad hopped ona bus to drive 9 hours north to Ancash, and into our beds in Musho. We are an hour away from the closest town, Haurez. So internet will only be accesible 1 day a week (mondays?). And we´ll be getting some warmer clothing today as well.
There´s a large tourism industry here, due to the extremely high mountains… lots of American and European trekkers and climbers who practice here for Everest. The North Face company has many billboards, signs, and shops here. Who knew that when we signed up for this, we´d be living in the shadows of some of the highest mountains in the world?
So, while we´re here, we´ll be discipling the church leadership, so that they can be equipped to disciple the people here, we´ll take over the services and cell groups at the church we´re living at. Also, teams will go out week by week into other areas (some that have never heard the gospel before), and also into a town called Tumba, where Joshua, the pastor at our church, wants to start a new church, or cell group.
