Our whole squad is together this month at Christian Light Foundation in Los Guido, Costa Rica. Los Guido is a city where child prostitution, gangs, drugs, and the sound of gunshots is a part of everyday life, but within those fears that people face everyday is a light that trumps the darkness. I have seen miracles and the glory of God everyday in this city. God has transformed my view of Los Guido from a place of fear and darkness to a place where his majesty reigns.
My team has had a powerful month of prayer ministry…
“The remarkable thing, is that sitting in the presence of God for one hour each morning – day after day, week after week – with myriad distractions radically changes my life. God, who loves me so much that He sent His only son not to condemn me but to save me, does not leave me waiting in the dark too long. I might think that each hour is useless, but after thirty, sixty, or ninety such useless hours, I gradually realize that I was not as alone as I thought; a very small, gentle voice has been speaking to me far beyond my noisy place. So: Be confident and trust in The Lord!” – Henri J.M. Nouwen
Here’s just one way God was glorified:
A squad member, Christina, had a vision early on this month about our squad running a 5K around the perimeters of Los Guido. We weren’t sure if this event was going to happen because there are some streets that are too dangerous to walk down. The Lords protection was made clear and the plans were made. After inviting a few locals and having our host, Mark, drive behind us we were off running. It was a beautiful day. I saw so much beauty and light in people – waving, smiling, saying “hola”, and looking out their windows at a group of gringos (white people) running through their city. Getting to run around Los Guido in our last week here was a physical representation of running a victory lap around the city; his presence and light permeated the streets.
This month has been one of seeing miracles, God’s protection, and living out love. The gym floor we have been sleeping on feels like home, and this place will be missed and prayed for continuously.
2 Thessalonians 3:3-5
“But The Lord is faithful; He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. And we are confident in The Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we commanded you. May The Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ”.
