In some African countries, it is common to give a nickname to women when they are mothers. They are called, "Mama (Enter the name of your first born)". For Judith Mutange, this nickname system works really well… Her name is Mama Mercy, and that explains so much about her.

Judith founded Great Mercy Ministries in 2001 and has never looked back.  Judith is a middle-aged woman with a wonderful husband and four beautiful children. Two of her children currently attend Great Mercy school. Through out her childhood, Judith's mother stressed the importance of education, but they struggled to pay the school fees. She credits my completion of high school to dedicated teachers and a wonderful British couple who helped pay off my school debt.

Upon completely high school, Judith started working in a high school. After eight years, she resigned and decided to follow a calling to study theology. Many people were against her decision, but she knew this is what the Lord wanted her to do. Once again, she was unable to pay the school fees, but the principal insisted she attend because she was one of only two women to be accepted into the twenty-ve person class.

One class assignment challenged her to take a look at the needs of her community, so she began taking daily walks around her home. Everywhere she looked, she saw children who were not in school because they were unable to afford it. Judith's heart broke for these children because she knew first-hand what they were going through. She started inviting them over for tea, hoping to encourage them and teach them the importance of education. From there, she began assessing where each child was at in their education and formed syllabuses for each of them.
And so Great Mercy school began. And when the same children began showing up to her house on Sundays, Great Mercy Church was formed. What started with seven children has now grown to 151 children. It was never Judith's intention to start a ministry, but the Lord had bigger plans. He continues to grow Great Mercy, giving them opportunities to expand.
