Anyone who knows me, knows that my heart is for Jr. High and High School ministry. So, anyone who knows me will be happy to hear that one of the first things I got to do this month was briefly speak to 150 high school girls at a morning church service.
We are in Kitale, Kenya for our eight month of ministry, and we are working with Great Mercy Ministry. Our contact, Judith, is an incredible woman of God who started the ministry in 2001 with her husband, Evan. On Sunday, Judith was asked to speak at the high school, and let three of us tag along. Needless to say, my hand shot up immediately when our team leader asked who would like to go.
Great Mercy Ministry is a children's home, a school, and a church for over 90 children. My team will be assisting in the classrooms and loving on the kids after school. We will also assist with gardening and office work on occasion. And on the 15th and 16th, we might get to speak at a youth conference!
The main language of Kenya is Swahili. Fun Fact: Many names and phrases from The Lion King are Swahili words… it's been fun impressing the kids with phrases like Hakuna Matata (it really means "no worries"), Asante Sana (thank you), simba (lion), and rafiki (friend). I even taught a class of 4th graders the Hakuna Matata song today. They also taught me many new words, like kitabu (book) and mtu (person.
Please pray for this month. Pray for Judith and her staff. Pray for the kids. And pray that our team has the strength and energy to pour out on these amazing people.
