This month has been full of new experiences, new customs, and a new look, which I’ll show you later.  Because we have such limited Internet I am pretty much writing a summary of the month here with a more specific blog to follow.

During our first two and a half weeks here in Maputo, Mozambique we mainly did house visits to members of the church that our ministry contact (Felito) is the pastor of and outreaches in the surrounding areas.  House visits were/are so much fun, I love getting to see how the Mozambican people go about everyday life.  Most here in the outskirts of Maputo live in cinderblock houses, usually only one or two rooms, and they grow corn and peanuts in their sandy front yards.  We go from house to house for three or so hours and pray for over the homes and people of the church.

In the evening we would pack up a truck and trailer full of huge speakers and sound equipment, squeeze ourselves and a few other volunteers into said truck and travel anywhere from thirty minutes to over an hour to get to an outreach spot.  We would then watch the sound equipment get set up, and they would start playing music to attract people to where we were.  Usually we would be helping out a local church, so their pastor along with members of their church would sing and preach for a couple of hours and then our contact Felito would preach a salvation message, and usually one of us would give our testimonies.  After that there would be an altar call, and people would come forward for prayers of healing as well as to be welcomed into the family of Christ.  We usually did three or four of these a week.

For the first time in my life I saw people healed before my eyes, and demons cast out of people through the prayers of my teammates and I.  I knew that I would be witness to these types of things at some point on the Race and now that I have finally been able to see the power of the Holy Spirit working through my teammates and I its even more exciting than I imagined.  I love seeing the growth in my team, the way we are learning how to discern the voice of the Spirit in our lives, in how to pray for people, and to seek out his will for our lives.  To truly see God as a powerful supernatural Being who is living and active in this world, and to see how He counteracts the dark spirits that exist as well is truly one of great gifts this experience has granted me.
