Let me tell you about our Safari Day, we woke up at 3:30 (that’s a.m.) and all crammed into the Land Rover, since I’m short I generally end up in some sort of ridiculous position in our vehicle escapades and Safari Day was no different, Em and I, along with Jeff, squished ourselves into the back of the car while Liv, A.Ho, Jamos, and Erika in the middle and Louis and Allison in the front. We left our lovely little compound at approximately 4:45 and in about an hour or so we made it to our safari destination. After a short potty break we all piled into a very safari-ish looking vehicle, watched our guide, Gary, loaded a rifle (“Just in case, we don’t want anyone getting mauled by a lion”), and listened to a rather short list of precautions (mostly just don’t get out the vehicle) and away we went. The sun had just risen (we watched rise on our drive over) and it was cool and beautiful.

This was our safari car, cool no?

We stopped for coffe in the middle of our early morning safari, nbd.
Throughout the day we saw all sorts of gorgeous scenery, and of course lots of cool animals. A personal favorite moment: the first time we saw a warthog Em yelled out “Look guys, a hogwart!”. Pretty much made my day. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to call them anything else. After a couple of hours of searching for elephants (no such luck, sad day) we headed back to lodge area, but wait, wasn’t that supposed to be a three-hour safari? Oh well…no expectations, right? Not with Louis around, no sir. He went up to the lady in charge, and while we had a lovely breakfast (granola, fruits, and a kickin breakfast burrito) they somehow managed to get us another safari for after breakfast! So out we go once again.

Louis, after taking care of business.
On our second safari of the day we drove around for almost three hours and while it was much warmer (okay, lets be real, it was HOT) than our first it was much more animal filled. We saw lots of antelope, wildebeest, zebras, a ginormous giraffe (along with some other ones), hogwarts, a monkey or two, dung beetles (those guys are hard workers), hippos, and to top off the day two lionesses!! The ladies were still pretty much babies (only two years old) but they were already HUGE, I can’t imagine how much bigger they will be when they are full-grown. It was such a great day for our team, and to be able to share it with Erika and Louis made it even better.

Dude, I saw a for real lion, in the wild. Awesome.

How cool are these pictures? Thanks Amanda!
I think even without the animals I could have been totally content just to drive around in the gorgeous weather, looking at glorious creation with a bunch of people I love. Don’t get me wrong, I loved seeing all these creatures not in a zoo, they were so graceful (minus the hippos of course). Seeing how varied and different all these animals were, how many different kinds of plants and trees were around just made me remember how creative of a Creator we have. I feel so blessed to have been able to witness all that we did that day and I’m so excited to see what else He has to show me.
