What 100 Euros Can You in Italy:
My team left Friday evening at 11 pm to hop on a 8 hour ferry ride to Bari, Italy (62 Euros roundtrip). We made it into the city around 8 in the morning and started exploring. First things first of course, we stopped for a pastry and cappuccino (3 Euros) for breakfast and then shopped around for a place to sleep (8 Euros) which we found semi-quickly conveniently next to a piazza with a lovely (and inexpensive) gelato place. Then it was time to explore and find some lunch (does anyone see a food theme developing for the weekend?). A kindly Italian gentleman recommended this little bread shop with a pizza-like bread thing with tomatoes and olives (1 Euro), it was so so so good. Then we went to a castle (1.5 Euros) and explored that for a while (not gonna lie, I pretended for at least two minutes that I was a princess/in Harry Potter…it didn’t hurt that I had my long skirt that day). After our castle exploration we went back to our hotel and (after sneaking in 3 of our teammates) we had a nap (think seven people on four twin beds, fun times). After nap time it was time to go find dinner. My fantastic team leader Jamos had looked up a legit pizza place so we headed over where we had pizza, drinks, bread, and an awesome caprese salad (6 Euros). Then it was Em’s favorite time…Gelato time!! We headed back to our piazza for some lovely gelato (1.5 Euros) and team bonding. As most of us headed back to our room (walking and eating all day can be quite exhausting) we made Jamos and Em stay back and have some couple time by the lovely little fountain in the park. Then it was bedtime/team cuddle time (have I mentioned how much I love my team? Cause I love them a lot).
We woke up and headed out for our second day of Italian awesomeness, which started out much like the first, pastry and coffee for breakfast (I am ruined for all our pastries for the rest of my life). Then it was time to go to the bay and watch the World Coastal Rowing Championships( for free), which was less exciting than it sounds but still fun to watch. Plus who doesn’t want to spend a morning overlooking an Italian bay with the sun shining on the water singing Disney tunes (yep, that happened). Next stop, postcard (.5 Euros) and souvenir shopping. We then tried to find our breadtangle of pizza place, but alas it was closed so we ate a little place next to the previously mentioned castle where I had a calzone and a fanta (3.5 Euros) and then hung out next to the moat in the sunshine for a bit. We then decided to try a new park and found…a playground!!! Liv and I enjoyed it quite a bit, Jeff didn’t do so well (check the video). After our playdate we got more gelato and/or a crepe (2 Euros) and people watched in the piazza. Guess what time it was then? More food, you say? Correct! Dinner times at a nice little pasta place in the piazza next to the port where we had pasta, bread, fried corn things (tasted like a mix between cornbread and popcorn, strange but tasty), and a drink (10 Euros). This concludes our food tour of Bari, Italy thanks for reading, see ya next time!!
Oh yea, then we had to get back on the ferry, sleep in various uncomfortable positions wherever we could and then head to ministry back in Vlora by 11. Whew, what a weekend!
