Okay, sorry I’ve been negligent in my blogging; it’s been a crazy little while. Currently I’m in Quito staying with a super fabulous family who is taking incredibly good care of me, along with my teammate Jessica who moved in this past Friday.
These two weeks of ministry are so different from our first week. Last week and this week we are pretty much doing the same thing: VBS or hospital ministry from 9-12 and then we teach English from 3-5. During our break, we have team time, debrief, eat lunch, and occasionally nap (my personal fav). I have a whole new appreciation for all of my teachers, its certainly not an easy job. We have about twelve children in our VBS class, and so we decided we could do more by splitting up during the morning, half of us stay and teach VBS and the other half go to the children’s hospital, which is about a fifteen minute bus ride from the church, and pray for the children and their families.
Each day, whether at the hospital or at church I’ve learned something, kids are so great at teaching. Yesterday while Lins, Manders, and I were at the hospital we felt incredibly overwhelmed by the need and the desperation that was so apparent on everyone’s face. We decided that praying over individuals didn’t feel quite right and we really just wanted to cover the whole place in prayer so we each went to a corner of the room and began to pray. As I stood in my corner I really didn’t know what to pray for, so I simply asked God to give the people around me peace, comfort, and joy…in the midst of all the sadness I so wanted them to experience something good, something of God. As soon as the words left my mouth I heard a child’s laugh, and when I looked up a little boy with clubfeet was chasing his mom up and down the aisle, giggling the whole way. This child, who was essentially running on his ankles, had joy. Praise the Lord. I so wish I could show you a picture of him, but I didn't have a camera with me, and I'm not even certain I would have used it if I could, it was such an incredibly special moment. Praise God, He hears and answers our prayers!!
Okay, so my favorite little person at VBS is this precious and adorable little girl named Kristel Naomi. She is three, so we speak about the same amount of Spanish. She also absolutely refuses to play any of our games, most of which are outside and involve running, sound like anyone you know? Haha.

Isn't she precious?! Sometimes we have photo shoots, okay?

Alright, maybe everyday… Kristel asked me how to take a picture, this is the result

Some more of our VBS crew from this week, gorgeous all of them. The two guys on the right are pretty great, Santiago wears his glasses way down on his nose, absolute greatness.
In our English class we have people ranging from 12-40ish, so it’s a most interesting task trying to figure out what each person knows and how to teach a class where everyone has a different skill level. Jess and I have the advanced group with lots and lots and tons of help from our dear friend Gabby. Pretty much she just tells us what to do and asks us how to pronounce stuff…it’s a good system. They don't appreciate being photographed as much as the children, so no pics of our English students.
Anywho, its been a great time so far in Ecuador and I know many more are to come. Thanks for reading and commenting, it all means so much to me! Love y'all!!
