Jesus instructed his disciples to take very little with them as he sent them out on their missions across the Middle East. Here at the World Race, we’re doing the same thing. Our previous lives that were full of materialism are being condensed down ten-fold. Now we’re forced to trust more on the Lord’s provision rather than our own belongings. So, let’s take a look at what a missionary totes around the world!

 

THE PACK

Freshly graduated from college, I made some of my proudest purchases to date. My first house, aka my tent: $250. My first bed, aka sleeping bag & pad: $350. My library, aka my Kindle: $80. The pack that holds my life together for the next year: $0. Because Christian community is beautiful, and they just love to bless you with gifts. [Thank you, Yglesias family!]

 

 

 

THE BED

One super organized Logistics folder, waterproof passport holder, portable iPod speakers, one ancient MacBook [will return to Smithsonian post-race], extra MacBook battery, Mac external harddrive, converter, power strip, AA & AAA batteries, 2 pair of headphones, 1 pair of ear plugs, Kindle, SteriPen [to purify all drinking water], Camelbak, extra Camelbak pieces, iPhone, playing cards, 11 encouraging letters for each country [courtesy of my lovely Phi Lambs J ], 3 journal/notebooks, Holy Bible, 1 Northface backpack, 12 blow-up globes [courtesy of the amazing Dee Bloodworth!]

Sunscreen, deodorant, light deet bug spray, heavy deet bug spray, lotion, hand sanitizer, baby powder, detergent, teatree oil, Chapstick, pocket towel [yes, that bottom left green pouch really does hold my towel], 5 gelly headbands, 1 Buff headband, ponytails, bobbypins, hairbrush, Q-tips, baby wipes [bc every racer knows to expect baby wipe showers], toothbrush, various pieces of makeup.

 

 

MEDS & MISCELLANEOUS

Headlamp, washcloth, mess kit, pocket shower [this + 10L water + hanging tree branch = 7 min shower], med kit w/ essentials, TP, lady things, malaria prophylaxis, anti-nausea, antibiotics, pain relievers, laxatives, probiotics, Chapstick.
