For mom
Polar opposites is often how I describe her to my friends. Imagine a woman with purple highlights, nails done every few weeks and her favorite form of stress relief is shopping. Dressed to the nines at all times, she rarely leaves the home without matching jewelry and lipstick on.
Then, there’s me. Quite the contrary.
But I think that’s one of my favorite parts about our mother-daughter relationship.
Ever since I can remember, she has encouraged me to be me. I never felt pressured to be something that I wasn’t.
She has always been true to herself, too. Unashamed, giving me a great first-hand example.
As I grew older, from teens to twenties, she has been vulnerable with me about her own life full of insights, revelations and discoveries.
I realize now, how special that is. To know about your mothers life like you would a friends.
We would stay up late catching each other up on our lives, talking and encouraging one another. Keeping dad up with our laughter (sorry dad!!). Some of my favorite memories.
She is selfless. She puts others before herself. She loves the Lord with her whole being and isn’t afraid to express her faith. She prays, hard and trusts in God’s promises. She has shown me what it looks like to love Jesus with everything. To trust Him in good times and in bad times. With her life she has shown me that His will is most important. You could basically say that it’s all her fault I’m on the race…
All joking aside, this woman, my mom, is one most admirable. She has shown me what faith looks like. She has shown me what forgiveness looks like. She has shown me what joy looks like. She has shown me what love looks like.
There have been so many people in my journey who have prepared me to be a great mom. But you, you take the cake.
You love so well. And I can’t wait to hug you.
Happy Mother’s Day, mom!! You are most deserving.
