Dear Reader,
You’re a dreamer. I know this because that’s how God made you. You have dreams, goals and aspirations. But if you’re anything like me, you probably cut yourself short way too often. Stop that.
Stop sabotaging God’s plans for you.
God has dreams for us, too. God intercedes for us. He has these marvelous plans for us, and for whatever reason we give up on them. Sometimes we walk around thinking God is boring. But have you ever looked at the sky? A mountain? The ocean? He is the most marvelous creator, and if you’ve ever stopped to marvel at His creation, don’t you think His plans for you might be marvelous as well?
But then comes the real problem. We sell ourselves short. We self-sabotage God’s plans for us because when we finally come to the moment when we meet the plans He might have for us, we back out. We excuse ourselves from His offer. We think we’re not worthy. The reality is, no one is worthy. No one deserves what He has to offer. But how amazing is it to serve a God who WANTS to create a beautiful life for you? Despite our failures, He takes delight in making our hearts full with joy. How marvelous indeed.
When I reflect on this past semester, there are more moments than I can even count where God divinely planted people and places into my journey. Prayers were being answered left and right; opportunities were being placed before me, along with things I never even asked for. I remember telling a friend “I suck, I don’t know why He loves to make me happy? I don’t deserve any of it.”
Her response to me was profound and a total eye opener. “It’s not about what you deserve, it’s all about how you make yourself available. He makes stuff happen! He makes a way.”
So, reader, here’s my advice. Keep making yourself available. There will be many moments that suck; there will be many failures. There will be bumps and walls along the way that you must conquer. But if you keep choosing joy and making yourself available, He will pave the way. He will make stuff happen. Stop giving up on the dreams that He planted in your heart long ago. He can make your dreams come true.
With love,
A former victim of self-sabotage
“Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! I can never escape from You! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you. You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!”
Psalm 139:1-18
