I was amazed this morning when hearing a sermon from our dear friend and soon to be pastor, Brandon Cook, on the body of Christ. It is such a well known idea of the parts of the body as found in Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12 but something that really stood out in my mind this morning was how much we need each other AND how much our spiritual gifts our really God’s way to presence himself in others lives.
Right now my family is going through a challenging time since my adorable grandpa fell walking our chocolate labrador-resulting in a fractured hip. He love people, the outdoors and his independence and now he has to rely on others for everything during this time of recovery. I was able to spend hours sitting with him and loving on him (using my gifts of compassion, giving and hospitality) but not it is my time to go on this road trip. It was SO hard to think of leaving him in the nursing facility alone and my mother to take care of him “by herself”. It was not until this morning at church did I realize that my family is not alone, we have the body and they are filled with gifts to give my family during this time of need. We received prayer, encouragement and support that only God can give through his people. I thank each one of you for presencing yourselves in our lives and I challenge each of you reading this to use your gifts to continue to give context for God to show up.
My family is still in need of love and I am asking anyone who knows my mom or grandfather to pray and ask God how you can use your spiritual gifts to bless them and show them God’s love during this difficult time. In the same way, may we all look out opportunities to presence God with whomever we meet. I am excited to say “yes Lord” on this trip and see who He has us love on. We are not meant to live this life alone and it is only when we work together as the body that we feel fully purposed and alive in the lives of others.
After answering 60 questions you will find out your top three spiritual gifts.
