Please read my first blog The Tunnel Part One The rest will begin to make more sense.

You wouldn’t believe your eyes. You wouldn’t be able to grasp that God’s children actually live like this. Sons and Daughters of the King with no place to be kids, trapped behind concrete walls and the spirits in their community.  At first glance you say to yourself, “Okay it is time to wake up. This has to be a bad dream.” However, the wake up that needs to happen is in the hearts of these beloved, and in the hearts of each one of us.
The dictionary defines “tunnel” as:  “a passage located through or under a barrier, a hole made by an animal, usually for shelter. As a verb it means: “to force a way through”. The entrance exists through seven foot wall of concrete, and is about three feet tall and maybe two feet wide.  Adorning the top of the entrance is a tag saying: “Bloods kill”. Gangs are pretty common here in the Cuatro. Katie and I received a lesson from a boy no more than 7 years old, showing us the different gang signs, and naming off all the ones that he knew.
Once crouching through the wall you have officially entered the “tunnel”. There to greet you are two beautiful older women who are sitting on what room allows for a bench. Their view is of the wall only about two feet away from them. They have adorned the wall with liters of empty bottles that are growing plants that are trying the best they can to bring life into that place.  As you turn to your right to begin to walk the tunnel paths you must cross on two wood beams that help you cross over the sewage that is just standing underneath. It is a horrible breeding ground for mosquitoes and disease.

Your arms cannot stretch out from one side to another. It is impossible. Upon walking this claustrophobic path we are stopped by a woman who begins to cry that she has no electricity. That is all she is asking for. They spend their days and nights by candlelight. She complained about her eyes and the fact that her husband has been looking for work for so long, but can’t find a job. Prayer is the one thing she does daily asking God for help.

The people of the community were very welcoming to us. We learned that we are actually only the second set of Americans to ever step foot into their world. The first was two Koreans who had been through once before. No white Americans have ever been back there. White skin is envied here. As you drive through the city you will actually see skin-whitening centers instead of tanning salons like in America. They are anxious to learn why we have come and in what ways we can help them. I am anxious as well to find what we can do for these sons and daughters. Many are under the control of alcohol, sexual abuse, physical abuse, and verbal abuse. They are hungry, they are in need of clothes, and they are in need of medical care. They are in dire need of the Father’s love. That I know I can give them.

Over the next few weeks I will take you further into the lives of the people that live in the “Tunnel”. What their lives are like and what their physical needs are. God is meeting their spiritual needs through us for sure and even some of their other needs. Please keep my team Karis in your prayers as we step out in obedience to the Lord to minister to this community. Pray for the people and the oppression that they are under. There is some serious bondage happening in the lives here.
