Dear family and friends…Saying hello to all of you from Chichicastanango, Guatemala!!
These past few weeks have been absolutely amazing. My team is so wonderful, I feel so lucky to have each and every one of them in my life for the next year. Be sure to check out their blogs!
The past 2 weeks, and until the end of the month we are living with a pastor and his family in a village called La Cama. We are here to help him build a church, which has been a lot of physical labor, but also incredibly amazing. The people here don’t have much at all… him and his wife have 4 children and they emptied their ENTIRE house and are staying in their shed/convenience store/kitchen so that we have a roof over our heads. Their house, by the way, consists of 3 rooms made out of cinder blocks and aluminum siding as a roof. They have nothing, and yet they are giving everything they DO have just so that we will have comfort.
“Mama” cooks us 3 meals a day which consists of corn tortillas at EVERY meal, corn on the cob, corn bread, corn muffins, corn chowder… can you tell they harvest corn here? Haha. We also get to enjoy fresh vegetables and fresh chicken as well… they have about 7 or 8 chickens in the back, and no, they are not pets.
Our first day in La Cama the oldest son wanted to take us on a “short walk around the town”… well that turned into a crazy hike through the mountains and jungle, but ended up at the most amazing waterfall I’ve ever seen. Totally like what you would imagine a waterfall to look like in the forests of Guatemala J And since I thought we were just going for a stroll I didn’t bring my camera so I missed out on pictures of it. Agh.
Anyways that is all the time I have today… I love you and miss you all and am praying for you every chance I can get!! Until next time… God bless!!
P.S. As before, check out my facebook for pics, they won’t load up here for some reason!
