I'm a reader. I LOVE to read <3. Give me a good book and I will be perfectly content. Barnes and Noble is my happy place. I even love the smell of a new book.
Given my love for reading, it might be kind of surprising and certainly disappointing that I haven't read the Bible. At least not the whole thing.
Before I applied for The Race I spoke with a friend of a friend who had recently returned from his Race. I was deeply encouraged by his experiences and eventually decided to apply for The Race myself. Mac (the friend of a friend) is inspiring me again. On his blog One Crazy Bible (www.onecrazybible.com, check it out. It's pretty amazing) he is writing about his expeirences reading the entire Bible (he's first timer as well). His insight and excitement have encouraged me to do the same thing…
Well, I started yesterday and I have to agree with Mac, this is one crazy Bible!!!! I mean I'm only in Genesis chapter 5 and I found myself rereading verses and thinking "I'm sorry, WHAT!?! " There's intrigue, scandal, murder. You name it, it's happening.
I mean Psalms 104:26 (Message) talks about how ships plow through the ocean waters "and Leviathan, your pet dragon, romps in them." Again, WHAT!?! God has a pet dragon!?!
And in Genesis 3, the animals are talking! (Well, the serpent at least was talking, so I'm assuming the other animals could talk as well since Eve didn't seem too frekad out by this.)
And, can we talk about how long everybody lived? Adam – 930 years, Seth – 912 years, Enosh – 905 years, Jared – 962 years! Enoch was the young one of the bunch he only lived 365 years. But, he didn't actually die. God just took him away one day. No big deal.
My heart is beyond happy with the way God is wooing me with His Word and how I LOVE reading it <3.
