Valentine’s Day Half Way!!!

This lovely weekend in Malealea, Lesotho marks our halfway point on the race.
It’s a bittersweet feeling.

5.5 months closer to sharing intimate and comical stories with familiar faces.
5.5 months left of ministry in 5 more countries.
5.5 months closer to mourning the end of a deep spiritual journey.

A few weeks ago I turned 24.
Here are 24 things I’ve learned on the Race in the first 24 weeks.

1. It’s not what you have, it’s what you do with your time that matters.

2. The world will reward you for the wrong things. Occupy this planet wide awake to what you’re saying yes to.

3. Rest is crucial.

4. The war is won, but the battle isn’t over.

5. Comfort can be dangerous. It can keep you in a bubble where you find yourself pouring your time down a drain called Netflix.

6. You can only serve one master: man or God.

7. The Bible is a fascinating book filled with amazing stories, advice, and promises to hold on to.

8. Being abroad is not as scary as its portrayed to be. (Until you’re caught without toilet paper).

9. Friendship is being vulnerable enough to express your needs, trusting they’ll be met, and doing all you can to meet the other persons needs.

10. No matter how much you make, no matter how far you go in life, that will never heal your wound or tell you who you are.

11. God can never love you more or less than He does in this very moment.

12. Boundaries are awesome at protecting relationships.

13. The world is full of broken people. Share whatever light you have. Focus on what is true, noble, and lovely.

14. Relationships can’t give you strength, purpose, or worth.

15. He’s a jealous God. Put nothing before Him.

16. Modest isn’t hottest; it’s safest.

17. Feedback is crucial to healthy relationships. If you can’t receive the hard things from people who love you the most, then who can be honest with you?

18. If He’s your core, you can get close to having heaven on earth.

19. Passive communication is cowardly. Be brave as a lion and say what you really mean in love. Trust others to receive it.

20. God will give you your immeasurably more. Don’t settle for anything less.

21. Life is awfully short. There isn’t enough time to learn from all your own mistakes. Watch others’.

22. God blesses you when you obey and still loves you when you don’t.

23. Staying out of the Victim, Rescuer, Bad Guy cycle will save you energy. Only take part in respectful conversations.

24. You can give up anything and come out free and strong.

This is the tip of the iceberg. I’ve come a long way, but still have so much to learn. It’s a lifelong journey to look more like Jesus.
