The song “Oceans” by Hillsong UNITED was released in September of 2013, my first year at Northwestern. It seemed as though every Friday worship chapel had to include that song in some form.
If I’m honest, the song quickly became overplayed, and yet each time I heard it the lyrics became my prayer. So many Fridays I closed my eyes and opened my arms in surrender, asking God to make the words true in my life.
I knew these words were not to be taken lightly; I was asking for something huge. My desire for God in those moments overpowered any ideas or hopes I had over my own life.
This morning I found God leading me to play that song on my phone as I sat on the couch, coffee in hand. And then it hit me. Where I am now is what I prayed for three years ago.
“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior”
That first line is on the t-shirts I am selling as a fundraiser. There is also a list of the countries I am going to on the back. I am hoping the shirts will serve as a reminder for you to pray for me, a way for you to show your support, and maybe even be a conversation starter with the people around you!
