We were awakened around 3am on the campsite the day we were
going to leave Dublin. We got up to worship as a squad as tragedy hit one of our
teammates. We packed our things and our wet tents and got on the bus to the
airport. There was definitely a sense of sorrow and anticipation for the next
leg of our journey.
You see the awakening was amazing, God-smacking conference.
He tore into me and my team and just left us in the wake of his spirit. Each
day brought deeper depths with the Lord and the last morning as we worshiped
for our squad mate, the intensity of his spirit was nothing I had ever felt
before.
The several hour plane rides to Nairobi were interesting.
The first plane ride the pilot didn’t land though we were almost on the ground.
Then he started ascending, there were some shady leanings of the plane and I
was left a bit uncomfortable. Thankfully we arrived safe and sound but almost
late for our connecting flight. It must have been an interesting sight some 48
Americans rushing through the airport in Istanbul with backpacks filled to the
brim.
We arrived early morning around 2am in Nairobi, Kenya. I
forgot my itouch on the plane and I was so tired that I didn’t really care in
the moment. I forgot to bring visa pictures and trance just thought that my new
team would have to wait 2 hours for me to get through customs. Thankfully
Kenyans take your picture instead of expecting you to have them on hand. We had
a bus to take us to the hostel. I had a man offer to help me with my big pack
and I started to let him take it before I was saved by one of the girls telling
me not too. Opps. Africa is a little bit different.
The hostel was very nice,
unexpectedly so. We had a bit of time figuring out where we would all sleep
because girls and boys aren’t supposed to be in the same room. We didn’t have
any water and that was ridiculously funny seeing some consider drinking the
water (no!). Ahh…travel days.
