I had a wonderful opportunity our last week at El Rancho to do a painting for the new cafe that the World Racers spent most of our free time hanging out at during the month. I had mentioned one day to Megan that the walls in the cafe seemed a little bare and needed some artwork to liven them up. Well, I was not aware of it at the time, but sneaky little Megan brought the topic up to Rob later on. So Rob approached me and asked if I would mind doing a painting to put in the cafe. Of course I immediately agreed. What an awesome opportunity! So the next day, I went with two El Rancho staff members, Sam and Kyla, into Wellington to purchase a large canvas and some acrylic paints. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Sam and Kyla totally spoiled me; they bought me coffee and took me to an amazing overlook of the city. I’ve decided that Wellington reminds me of a combination of Seattle and San Francisco, two of my favorite cities. I was so blessed that day to spend time with two new Kiwi friends and to enjoy the incredible city of Wellington. The only problem was that I forgot my camera that day, so, sadly, I don’t have any pictures to show you.

The next couple of days were spent working on the painting. I decided to try a Japanese-inspired piece, a style I had never attempted before. I always find painting to be a therapeutic activity, but something about doing it in New Zealand as a gift for some amazing people there, made it even more enjoyable. I presented the finished piece during our farewell dinner the evening before we said our goodbyes. It is incredible to know that I was able to leave a piece of myself at El Rancho.
