Sorry I haven’t been the best at updating about what has been going on, the Wi-Fi is nothing like what I’m used to.
My team along with three other teams arrived Wednesday afternoon in a small Mayan village named Xencoj. (we are the only Americans) We are staying with A man Named German. He and his family live in the front of the house, and added a new addition just for our group. We are staying in a room with seven bunk beds, and fifteen people.
The past few days we have gotten to experience some of the ministry we will be doing. We have already gone to a school we are working at and prepared devotion, served widows and their families.
I can already tell how much I will love this place. The ministry Contact (the guy in charge of what we do) Dave he is super awesome, and he’s really passionate about Go Ministries. He has a strong desire for us to learn what a life of a Mayan is like. He is planning so many fun activities for us to do in order to get the most of the 3 months, which makes me even more excited for this journey.
Last night we went to a Fiesta for Germans brother-in-law becoming mayor. It started out with a long speech and fireworks (which in Guatemala is normal year round.) Next started the native music and two of the guys with us awkwardly dancing in the middle.
The locals started starring so we figured why don’t we all join in. We started by dancing with each other, and as we went a long locals started dancing as well. Next we grabbed the hands of little kids, and danced around.
In these moments I felt the pure joy from the Lord, no we couldn’t speak their language, but we could show them what it meant to spend time with them and love on them. We danced and danced with multiple kids.
One little girl in particular captured my heart. Her name was Alex she had short curly hair. Every time I looked at her she was staring at me with the sweetest contagious smile.
The time came when we had to say goodbye to the Fiesta, and we were sad the dance party couldn’t continue. We exited with multiple “Adios’s” followed by kisses and hugs. In that moment I realized how much of a success the night was.
I know there will only be more stories to come. Please continue to pray for me and this journey.
