Ever since the very beginning I have received a lot of questions, which is totally normal since I decided to partake on something that was totally out of the norm. I have gotten asked so many times this year where I will be attending college, and the most rewarding thing is to see someone’s reaction when I replied back “actually for my first year I will not be attending college but I will be doing a gap year mission trip that will last 9 months long.” I have probably shared my faith in the past 8 months more than I have my whole life and that is the amazing part.
1.
Q. “So what countries will you be going to?”
A. Guatemala, Malaysia, and Botswana (In that order too)
2.
Q. So what are you going to be doing in the countries?
A. While my team and I are there we will be doing a multitude of things, I have a slight idea but no specifics. We will be partnering with orphanages, doing construction, loving on kids, going into hospitals, nursing homes, working with sex trafficking, and ultimately spreading the Word of God.
3.
Q. “You aren’t scared of going to all of these countries?”
A. I am scared of the little things, I am not scared of something happening to me. I have the Lord on my side. I know that he will protect me wherever I go and I shouldn’t worry about what is to happen. ” The Will of God will never take you where the grace of God will not protect you”
4.
Q. “What made you really decide to do this?”
A. I went on a mission trip in 2012 to Ecuador, the coolest thing I had ever experience at the time. I knew that it would only be the beginning, so I went on another mission trip to Guatemala in 2014. I enjoyed those so much, but I knew that I had to decide where I was going to college and what I was going to do. I knew that being a police officer was an option and that I wanted to obtain a degree in criminal justice. In order to be a police officer you had to be 21 to enter the academy. The Lord placed Gap year on my heart, and He had opened every opportunity leading up to it.
5.
Q. “How much is this going to cost you, it’s going to be really expensive right”
A.12,491 is the exact amount that this trip is costing. That is a lot of money, but in all honesty to God that is nothing, and he has proved to my family that it isn’t much at all. We limit what we think our God can do. ” And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus”- Philippians 4:19
6.
Q. “Aren’t you going to miss home, being gone that long.”
A. This is going to be the hardest thing yet. I am a HUGE mommies girl (not that I don’t love my dad just as much and not that I won’t l miss him just as much, because I will) but I rely on my mom for so much. I am going to miss the amenities. (except Coke Zero they have that in Guatemala) I know that it will all be okay though.
7.
Q. “How long will you be gone?”
A. I will be gone 9 Months.
8.
Q. “Are going to do any training for this?”
A. Actually yes coming up July the 25th we will be attending training camp to prepare us for this. We will be preparing physically, mentally, and spiritually. We will learn more specifics, so talk to me afterwards because I can tell you even more than I already informed you on. I will also be meeting my team. 🙂
9.
Q. “Are you going by yourself?”
A. I am going with around 50 other individuals ages 18-21, plus leaders. I have met some of them already met through social media. But I am so ready to meet them in person!!
10.
Q. “When do you leave?”
A. Somewhere within Labor Day weekend, so close yet so far away. I am so nervous too!
The questions don’t stop here, I have enjoyed talking about this so much. I know that this going to be so life changing that I cannot wait to embark on it. I am ready to be a world a way from the problems in America. The people in other countries are so accepting of Gods word. In America people twist it, and do not understand it. I am also fully funded so thank all of the people who invested in making my trip possible. You will truly never know how appreciative I am. Keep me in your prayers!!
