Dear FSU Wesley Foundation,
This letter to the past and the present FSU Wesley Community. I attended Florida State University and the Wesley Foundation from Fall 2009 until Spring 2013. Seeing as I have never been the loudest personality, there are definitely many of you who I do not know and have never met. But allow me to say that I love you all and I pray for you all often.
At the moment, I am working as a missionary on a trip called the World Race. The World Race is a mission trip that travels to 11 countries in 11 months. This is the conclusion of my 6th month on the Race. I am leaving Nepal this Friday for South Africa. As I travel around the world, my squad partners with existing Christian ministries and offer support, service, and encouragement while they minister every day in the field.
My love for missions may not have started at Wesley, but my time at Wesley definitely fostered my passion for the mission field. While I was at Wesley I went on 3 missions with Wesley, 1 to Guatemala (What up New Student Trip to Chontala!?) and 2 trips to Port-au-Prince, Haiti (New Life Children’s Center is where the party’s at!). I know the Wesley community to be a place filled with people passionate about forming community worldwide. I have no doubt that Wesley has continued with its strong global focus.
Mostly, I wanted to encourage all of you, to go where God calls you. I can say with absolute certainty that it won’t always be easy, but it is always worth it. As Christians, we have all been called out on the mission field. When Jesus said “Go and make disciples,” (Matthew 28:19), He is talking to all of those who believe. He tells us to go, so why are we hesitating? Just GO! Don’t let your plans hold you back, your age, your comfort, or your financial situation. Where God calls you He will provide a way!
While it may be too late for you to go on a Wesley mission trip for this Spring Break or Summer, it is never too late for you to live your life like it is a mission field. Because your life, most definitely, is a mission field. You don’t have to be working in a small village in Nepal or Guatemala to make a difference for the kingdom of God, you can do it from where you are right now! And that is an encouraging thought. Listen to where God is calling you and just GO and spread the light of Christ, remembering that God will provide a way.
Lots of Love from Nepal,
Leslie Oxford
P.S. Go Noles!
P.P.S. If you want to contact me about the World Race, I would love that because I love getting e-mails and facebook messages. However, please extend lot of grace, because I am not the quickest at responding.
