Before leaving this July, I decided I would do some research into my countries. So, my next three blogs are devoted to each world region where I will be traveling. I hope you enjoy the synopsis of my research. Keep praying and please consider donating to my support funds.
Albania
Capital: Tirana
Population: 3,011,405
Motto:”You Albania, give me honor, give me the name Albanian”
Language: Albanian
Religions: 70% Islam
20% Orthodox Christianity
10% Catholic/Protestant
Ever since I learned that Albania was the birthplace of Mother Teresa, I have wanted to travel here. Albania was part of the Soviet Union until the 1990s. Due to the years behind the Iron Curtain, Albania has struggled to come into its own. While in Albania, I will be outreaching to teenagers and young adults, shedding light into the darkness. Please pray that my team’s approach stands apart, and shines with truth in the young perceptive eyes of Albania’s youth.
Turkey
Capital: Ankra (Largest City: Istanbul)
Population: 76,667,864
Motto:”Sovereignty unconditionally belongs to the Nation “
Language: Turkish
Religions: 99% Islam (70% Sunnis)
For years, I have wanted to go to Turkey. From my love of ancient history to my interest in Middle Eastern culture, Turkey has always been a big ticket item. Now, Turkey will not be my first Middle Eastern country; I have been to Israel and Jordan. However, this is my first time living in a country that is 99% Islamic. While in Turkey, I will be sharing the gospel message in a completely new dynamic. Please pray for my team’s safety as we share Jesus in a Muslim Country, and for open ears to receive what we say.
Bulgaria
Capital: Sofia
Population: 7,364,570
Motto:”Unity makes strength”
Language: Bulgarian
Religions: 82% Orthodox Christianity
12% Islam
4% Atheism
The sad truth is that most of what I knew about Bulgaria before this blog was that Viktor Krum (from Harry Potter) is Bulgarian. Thankfully, as I prepare to go on the World Race, I have learned more about this fascinating and diverse country. While I am in Bulgaria, I will be working especially with women in the sex trade industry. Please pray for healing and restoration for these women.
Romania
Capital: Bucharest
Population: 20,121,641
Motto:”Awaken thee, Romanian”
Language: Romanian
Religions: 81% Orthodox Christianity
6% Protestant
5% Catholic
I have family ties to Romania! My step-mother, Isabell, grew up in Romania. When she was a teenager, her immediate family immigrated to the United States. Considering all of this, I grew up hearing random accounts of Romania. Hopefully, while I’m in Romania I will be able to meet some distant family members. I do know that I will be working with Gypsies, who are discriminated against throughout Europe. Please pray that the Gypsy peoples feel the love and acceptance of Jesus.
