When you enter a town and are welcomed,
eat what is offered to you.
Luke 8:10
Part of preparing myself for World Race has been preparing myself for eating foods of different cultures. Now, I know this sounds strange, but I am a discerning eater, or in other words, I’m quite picky. I have a very strong gag reflex, and like to keep food as simple and earthy as possible. Furthermore, I have self-imposed dietary restrictions. I have been a vegetarian since 2006. When I became a vegetarian, it was a self-challenge, to see how long I could last. I was not expecting or planning on being a lifelong vegetarian; it just kind of happened. When I gave up meat, I felt physically better, so, I never really missed eating meat.

However, with the knowledge that I will be going to some communities where food is scarce and resources lacking, I am making a change to my 8 year long dietary restrictions. If someone labors for meager amounts of food and then shares that food with me, I do not want to turn it down ungratefully. Eating meat is such a foreign concept to me, I wish I had someone like Samwise Gamgee to explain this new food to me (like Sam explained potatoes to Smeagol). I’m a little more than 2 months away from leaving so let the meat eating begin. This video shows my first attempt.
