Now this is the story all about how
My life got flipped, turned upside down
And I’d like to take a minute just sit right there
I’ll tell you how I became a… WORLD RACER
A lot of people have asked me how I found out about World Race, why I applied to World Race, and what I expect to get out of World Race. So here it goes.
How I found out about World Race…
In early 2013, I was a senior at Florida State University, and slightly terrified with what I was going to do with my life. Every so often I would talk to my co-worker turned friend Paige. (Paige is now doing ministry in London, obviously she is very cool)
She and I would pray for each other in our uncertainty of the future. During one of our talks, Paige mentioned World Race. The idea resounded with me, but God told me to wait. So instead, I prayed about going on World Race.
Why I applied to World Race…
When I was 3 years old, I decided that I wanted to be a missionary. Truth be told, my main motivation in this dream was to move to China, because I loved Chinese food. But I like to believe that whatever the main cause of my missionary desire, God was working in my heart and my life even then.
Funny thing is my love for Chinese food has died down but my love for travel, people, and God has not. After praying about the World Race for a solid 11 months, God gave me the push out the door that I needed. My mom told me I needed to leave the country, and see the world. I knew it was time for me to go. So I applied, I was accepted, and in July, I’m leaving on the World Race.
What I expect to get out of World Race…
As cliché as this sounds, I expect to see the unexpected. Still, I do have a few expectations. I believe that I will see this wonderful and terrible world with new eyes in a new way. I expect to be emotionally and physically torn apart and rebuilt. I expect to laugh. I expect to cry. I expect to make funny faces in my attempt to communicate with people whom I do not speak the same language. I expect to be afraid, and comforted. I expect to be stressed and to be given peace. I expect to see God’s love and the power of community. However, I am certain that I am going on an adventure.
