It still hasn’t sunk in that this is real life.

After almost 4 days of traveling, my team and I made it to Cape Town, South Africa on September 13th.

I had some serious kankles and was sleep deprived, yet was running around the city trying to get visas for our team for another country on our race. That whole day was quite entertaining.

I’ve been living in Ocean View for a week now, but it feels like months. This city is like a postcard. The ocean is beautiful, but it doesn’t compare to the beauty of the people.

We are being spoiled to say the least. We have great host homes who love us like we are their own. My host mom has been loving me particularly well through her coffee making skills. Y’all know this girl loves her coffee.

One of the many things that God is teaching me right now is that our words mean so much to Him and to the people we come in contact with.

Each conversation is a chance to speak life into someone.

And when we put words to our feelings, that is when He has room to work.

When we are honest with each other, he can open our eyes to how we should change.

It’s a hard lesson to learn. I’m not naturally all about being vulnerable and open. But this season of life is pulling it out of me.

This week we have been doing sports ministry at a school. The big surprise for us is that we could talk about the Gospel as much as we wanted to do. I can’t even count how many times I shared Jesus with those kids. It was so refreshing to be able to speak life into them whenever we wanted to.

The kids we were with come from some tough places. Many of them don’t have families who love or support them. Or they have very loving parents who don’t have the means to take care of them. It’s hard to feel like you make a difference when they are facing such hard circumstances, but to get hug after hug as we were leaving on the last day let me know that it matters what we are doing. To look into the eyes of kids who are abused and neglected and tell them they are special and that God loves them…that changes you.

Here’s to how God will continue to change and mold me as the months go on.
