Greater things are yet to come
Greater things are still to be done in this city.
As I’m leaving Bucharest these words we sang in church ring through my head. This past weekend Bucharest celebrated its 550th anniversary. On Saturday a few us roamed the main part of the city where they had live music and many street venders with food and other goods…it almost felt like a fair. I ate a candied apple which tasted really weird…Tara described it as poisonous but I’m obviously still alive after 36 hours…and I scaled the palace wall…and then 2 minutes later forced to get down…I’ve got the cool scratch-turning-into-bruise to prove it. It was a fun evening.
But I’m leaving Bucharest today. We’re headed to another city called Brasov for a conference called the Awakening with all world racers and AIM staff. We’ll be there this week and then on Friday or Saturday we’re heading to Israel. Yesterday was my last full day in Bucharest and I was thinking how quickly the three weeks went by and how much had happened. How much change occurred in our squad. The ministry we did with kids, old people, random people at the park and each other. Every location we go to we really only have about 3 weeks to do anything..and then we pack up and leave and go to the next place. And I’ve gotten to the place in the race where the initial excitement and crazy feel of it has worn off. Its still exciting and new every few weeks but the initial “honeymoon stage” enthusiasm has worn off. 3 Weeks is just long enough to get my feet wet…see what God is doing in a country, do some ministry and go. Often times the biggest ministry is to the contact who many times is a missionary, and just a way of encouraging them. This month especially, with the entire squad being together I found that ministry is frequently about the body of Christ- encouraging and challenging other racers.

We sang those words at the international church yesterday. Of any location I’ve been so far, the believers in Bucharest seem more motivated to reach their own city, their own people for Christ. Many churches had outreaches this past weekend during the city’s 550th anniversary. Yesterday at church the main speaker was a man from Bucharest who became a missionary to Afghanistan. I just see how much more God is doing in a single city than I even know or am aware of. My influence and ministry here is so small and brief, especially when compared to everything God is doing here. We’re a tiny part of much bigger puzzle for this city. Learning how He desires to use each person and has given each person completely different gifts and talents. So we spread God’s love for a few weeks…and pack up and go…But we know we haven’t labored in vain and that God has several plans for this city that are so much bigger than what we can do.
