So the first week of my journey is just about over and I’m excited to experience all God has for me.
After a stressful start, while still in Edmonton, God blessed me in the very first day of travel. Instead of flying out when I was supposed to I was delayed, adding to the stress but God took that opportunity to show me that he can work in amazing ways. I was blessed with first class seats. This may not be much to some but when you haven’t slept, for a number of different reason and are starting an 11 month journey, it was amazing to be able to recline, also just a really cool experience.
Our group of 57 first landed in Ft. Lauderdale, the same terminal I was in a month before and where a week before 5 people died. It was the true start of our mission as we gathered to pray as a team. It also tested our patience as we had a 12 hour layover where we went from baggage claim to outside baggage claim to waiting for our flight where we changed gates 3 times. We were truly blessed, as all checked bags made it.
We had the opportunity to walk around Medellin Colombia before leaving for Cartagena.
It was then a 12 hour bus ride through the night. Not a bad idea sleep on the bus, right? Wrong, already in a sleep deprived state the rocking rolling mountain climbing bus was not easy to sleep on, especially when I kept sliding out of my seat. But we survived, and will be taking another bus back to join our squad in early February.
We then joined our ministry host. They are an amazing family that has a heart for people. We are here to serve them but they have been a blessing as we adapt to our first days on the field.
