Today was our first “official” day of ministry. We went to down town San Salvador and just did evangelism in the park. Basically we just walked up to people and asked if they wanted to receive prayer for anything and then we just loved on them. We prayed for a lot of people today but I want to share a story about 1 man in particular, his name is Jaime. I saw Jaime walking towards us in the park and I said the same thing I said to everyone else, “buenas tardes, como esta?” Everyone else answered this question with “bien” but not Jaime, he said “bien, y malo” (good and bad). When I asked him why he wasn’t doing well he proceeded to tell me that he was drunk and that he drank too much. As we talked I noticed that his arm was bandaged up so I asked if we could sit on the bench and talk and pray for healing for his arm. Jaime was ready for this encounter you could just tell in his eyes. So we sat down and prayed for his arm to be healed (it was broken), after we prayed he started to tell us more about his story and how he was in several wars and that at one point he was studying to be a catholic priest. I don’t know why or how Jaime got to the place of alcohol addiction but he was addicted and as we spoke truth in his life and as he talked about Jesus his Savior he told us that he wasn’t going to drink anymore. It was glorious to see this man who moments before had a shame filled disposition find freedom once again in His Lord and Savior. His hand wasn’t immediately healed but healing began today, but what was healed and restored was his life and heart, and as I gave him a final hug goodbye I saw a smile on his face and a chin lifted up all because of the love of a Heavenly Father who loves his prodigal son. I hope to run into Jaime again before we leave and see the change in his life and an arm fully restored.
