This month my team gets the privalage of seeking out unsung heroes. Unsung heroes are people who are Doing extraordinary every day ministry, sometimes under a banner of an organization and some are doing it simply because they have been filled a mighty love and compassion for those around and have decided to follow that passion. So today I bring you one of each, meet The Joseph Project and meet Grace.
We found The Joseph project by researching NGO’s, ministries online. The Joseph project is made up of a small handful of staff, they are affiliated with YWAM and run a couple different programs from their base on commissioners street. Their target are the kids of Johannesburg. What they do is provide a safe place for kids grades 1-7 to come after school. A place where they can get help with their homework, where they can just be kids, where they can have positive influences in their life.
Every single school day the have a flood of 70 consistently come to their program, but they do not have enough teachers or helpers to handle and give the individual attention these kids deserve. They need more constant volunteers, ones that care, that can show and help guide these young ones through their walk in life.
3 Days a week The Joseph Project goes into the High schools and teaches a fire starters club. This club is all about Discipleship for new believers and others interested in Christianity. They provide a safe place for kids to explore, ask questions and learn about the bible.
Now meet Grace, Grace works for Joseph project working at the base answering phones, and taking care of the base. But Grace does so much more than that, the holy spirit has given her a great love and compassion for the street women near The Joseph’s Project. Her story is truly inspiring and from the moment she greeted me I felt a heart connection with her, I could feel the Love radiating off of her.
As she was walking home one day she passed a home, now this is no regular home, this one has no electricity, no running water, it is old and in bad condition. In the house live women, women who are broken, some are prostitutes others may of murdered and others just have no where else to go. She was filled with an overwhelming love, and compassion that runs so deep you are compelled to do something.
So she spent the next two months befriending the children who were on the street outside the home. Two months of faithfully showing up and loving the children before she was allowed into this broken home filled with women who need Christ’s never failing Love.
Since her two faithful months she has faithfully visited, loved and shared Christ’s Love and word with them. She started teaching them life skills of painting nails and doing makeup. Skills to help these women get out of their current situations and rise above the odds to make it in this world.
She dedicates herself not only to the Joseph project but to these women, filling them with a meaningful relationship, God’s Love and word. She visits them daily pouring into them, washing their feet and helping guide them.
Often I feel like people who just do something because they feel led are the stuff myths are made of, they preserver through trials and tribulations much like Grace did for two months before these women would let her in, but if you stay faithful and trust and go where that love and passion leads you God will show you amazing things, proof that you don’t have to have it all figured out in the moment but as you are the Lords hands and feet he will expand the vision and give you the tools you need to expand. To God be the Glory. Let his Love rule over our hearts, he will never fail.
