Today we loaded up for hot and bumpy, 3 ½ hour journey to the village where we would be praying for families and sharing the gospel. As soon as we arrived in the village I immediately felt a dark spirit. As I stepped out of our vehicle the smell of urine, feces and trash was so overwhelming that I found it difficult to take in a breath. The pastor quickly explained to us that the people here were the poorest of the poor. He told us that they couldn’t read or write and some even struggled to speak. Their job, when they could find one, was picking up trash in other villages. Sadness came over me as I starred into each of the children’s beautiful brown eyes.
I couldn’t help but wonder what their future would look like. As we walked to where the church service would be held, the kids began to cling to us. I had at least 4 or 5 holding on to each hand. I felt as if I was a celebrity. After meeting we the local pastor we began going house to house to pray for each family and invite them to our service that evening. After about an hour some of my teammates and I began to feel very weighted down spiritually.  So what did we do? We stopped in the middle of the street, pulled out a cell phone, played “Revelation Song” and worshiped the Lord right there. It was such an awesome reminder that the Lord is willing to meet us wherever we are, whether it is in the slums of India or your little country church in America. He wants to be with us wherever we are.
