I think we tend to see life through the lense of the state that we are currently in. A few days ago I asked the Lord to let me see the world through his lens.
The other morning there was a man rapidly knocking on the gate. He came in and claimed to be a prophet. In a very aggressive way he told us that we were not called to be in Malawi. He started talking about how much money we must have as white people. Through all of the rude comments that this man made I wasn’t angry or hurt, but overcome with sadness. I was deeply moved and sad that this man didn’t understand the gospel. He could quote scripture, he knew the right things to say, yet he missed the whole entire point. He proudly flaunted the fact that he was a “prophet”. It breaks my heart that the message of aggression and unease are associated with any peice of the most compassionate and loving God you could imagine.
I recently listened to a song called “Adonai” (Adonai is a Hebrew name for God). I might be slightly obsessed, I play it every morning. One of the lyrics says “Adonai, I’ve got nothing to bring”. This is humility !!
I am also mildly obsessed with Jenn Johnson right now. In one of her songs she says “I hear Him say, you, you don’t have to do a thing, simply be with me and let those things go, they can wait another minute, wait this moment is to sweet, please stay here with me and love on me a little longer. IM IN LOVE WITH YOU”. This love doesn’t cause people to come knocking down doors with messages of aggression. This love has no room for judgement, only compassion.
God is just so sad and heartbroken that we run around and try to please him yet we won’t even come into His presence to be filled up.
He wants to be with US. That is literally all. This is the gospel. We have nothing to bring. He just literally wants us. Everything else will come naturally as an overflow of that love.
Some updates-
Our team found a really great church and community group here in Blantyre called “Flood church”. We have been doing ministry with the pastor and hanging out with a soccer team down the road from us. A few of us went to a YoungLife club in Malawi which was really fun. It’s awesome to see how YoungLife is changing lives all around the world.
Our team has 2 more days in Malawi and then we are off to Guatemala! The first week in Guatemala is PVT (parent vision trip). I’m really excited for my family to get a glimpse into how my life has been for the past six months. I’ll also get to spend my birthday with them!
Six months down, three to go!
